Too much booze, high speeds and old roads don't mix.
Don't do it. (check out that rebar wall hanging there!)
Read he got out by himself at the bottom but died later.

I'm surprised that doesn't happen every day. And if you DO slow down to 5mph to exit, you always have someone on your ass because you've slowed down too much.
Another problem area is the merge lane from the 5 onto the Pasadena freeway. People behind you will try to overtake you and then your thrown onto the freeway. I hold my breath every time I take it. An acquaintance of ours, a father with kids, was merged off into the river to his death. That was 10 years ago. They now have a fence
Those suicide ramps have been a problem for decades. There have been a number of cars that have gone into the river from that very spot. They actually rebuilt that particular part of the bridge's guard rail several years ago after someone crashed through it, plunged into the river and survived. They used steel reinforcement when the guard rail was rebuilt. The unfortunate person who was killed in this most recent crash must have been going pretty fast to take the whole thing out like that.
Preservationists do not want the ramps changed. That's why they are still there.

Wow. That's a hell of an off-ramp. You basically have to go down to about 5-10 mph to make the turn.

The best civil engineering in the world? No, but blame it on the drinking and driving. That shit WILL kill you, and hopefully no one else. Bummer.
The worst freeway exit in LA! Why can't this be reconstructed and improved?
Uggh
