Downtown Snacks

Pretty common knowledge but hopefully never taken for granted. Downtown, and all its coolness, is very close to us. Always something going on in the City. An art opening or a traveling down low dj.

Bike/skate/run down the hill, hop on the Gold Line and 5 minutes later you'll be walking up to the MOCA. Beer in hand grooving another 5 minutes later.

The Saturday night MOCA specials in the Summer have started up again here. A different band or dj or artist or all of the above will be there every Saturday thru late August!!!

Part Time Punks at 6pm.
Screening on an artist at 7pm.
Dubwiser dubbing it up at 8pm.
Some spoken word at 9pm.
More part timing punk spinning after.

Trashy

Must be almost summer again. With that comes the random dumpings of trash, bed frames, mattresses, junk and whatever else by the Radio Tower. This big bunch of bags and junk was dropped off sometime last weekend. Wish I had a truck to haul it away. It is so ugly. What kook does this and doesn't think twice about it?

Who just throws THEIR trash out so everyone else has to deal with THEIR trash. Pretty sad.

Anyone got a number to call to get it hauled away? The people on the hill are really good about calling about this stuff so I am sure there is something in the works.

Styles

Late in getting this out I know but tonight is kinda special. Stones Throw founder and coolin' DJ Peanut Butter Wolf is on a LA tour. 7 nights at 7 different spots. Different genre each night. Tonight is only vinyl 45's of roots and dub music. Irie reggae tunes!! At the Echo in, where else, Echo Park. Tomorrow he is at Little Temple spinning 80's rap. Should be some good ones there too. And then to our neighboring Chinatown for some afrobeats at Grand Star. Oh man. Enough!

Come see a local soon to be if not already legend. Wolf lives in Mount Washington, give respect to our neighboring hill and come out and skank it up all night.

Dog Daze of Summer

Summer is a coming. I can feel it. Yes it has been gray and foggy up on the hill lately but storms are a brewing down in the Southern Pacific Ocean. This means swells up in our parts soon. Malibu and Topanga and Huntington and San Onofre and on and on are filling up to the gills with surfers again. Warmer, longer waves but with more of a crowd. But more bikinis. And dogs. Go surf!

Skateboard Scenery

It is great what you can see around this cool city on a simple skate. And how fun it is cruising the frontside and backside of this great little Monetcito Heights hill. Over through the edgy and rad Lincoln Heights, pick up a filling burrito along the sidewalk you are skating onto industrial old school graffitied buildings into passing by the hopeful and lovely Lacy St. animals over the LA River and through the woods and down the many hills of Chinatown and Elysian Park. Take the Metro back if yer tired. Sunny day skating in LA and you don't waste, or pay for, any gasoline.

One Mic

Spectacular Queens Bridge grimy rapper. Has made a resurgence lately but nothing compares to when he come up. Poor and hungry and a nasty nas flow. He was greatly helped by getting the best old New York producers like DJ Premier, Pete Rock and even Q-Tip rapping.
