Burn Fast

Parked and walked around the corner surprised to see this the other day. Car gutted and burnt to a crisp. Everything and anything of value removed. The local chatter has been that it more than likely a try at some good and fast insurance money. Cry that your car got stolen and set on fire. Another burnt "stolen" car on Ave 52 about thirty minutes later.

Hard times lead to hard living.

A little later out on another untouched hill I noticed another burn that looked suspiciously like a car fire. Guess it is that time of year. Wonder how many my-car-was-stolen-and-set-fire insurance claims work?

New Life

Traveled by this place last month and saw a note. Some car smashed through the fence Kool-Aid style, threw it in reverse, and took off. Maybe someone saw it? What cowards just driving away, wonder if they ever were caught?

Owners must have been very thankful for that huge thick front yard tree or else the car would have ended up in the living room. Scary, you can even see some fender marks on the trunk. Who was it? Drunks? Car racers? Show-offs? Pre-handsfee law cellphoners?

Tonight, I flew past the place on the top of the hill. Wait...I know that knocked down fence was around here. I could see all the fences up and down the street but did not see a new looking fence. Cruised around and finally saw the work. Cool! It has a modernish feel now, and it all just blends into the hill. Good job by the fencebuilder Angel. (I think that 's his name?).

Fly Repair

Great little area of Montecito Heights. The chill 10 or so houses live guarded by a freeway, a river, a big park and a mountain. One was for sale a couple months back and sold fairly quick. I can understand. This picture could be Los Angeles in the '50's if you didn't know better.

Around the corner at the end houses lives this crazy dragonfly sculpture. Visitors always ask if they saw what they saw. Noticed it got a little surgery last month with a piece by piece cleaning.

As of July, the fly seemed to be done. The best addition to the piece is the disco ball for the eye. The light reflections make it perfectly eerie.

Anyone know the background of the artist or info on this stretch of town? There is something special in the water out here in the Northeast.

Ramp

Just like the writing says. Careful! Exactly right. The semi-blind onramp at 52nd.

Offramps are 70mph to 10mph. Onramps are 0mph to 70 mph. There is something invigorating about them though. The onramp at 43rd feels like you are setting up for a Six Flags ride. The downslope gives you a great view of the oncoming traffic as you inch up. Now you are one car away and planning your strategy. Your turn is up and you see the blinker of the oncoming car in your lane. What if he just forgot that his blinker is on? What if he does get off the freeway and you blew your chance to get on. Never be indecisive. Just go. Just another day on the oldest freeway around.
